However, not all frameworks are suited to this task. Today, <strong>we&#8217;re going to explore why TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) is not the ideal choice for effectively mapping a company<\/strong>, based on an in-depth critique of enterprise engineering theory and practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To fully understand TOGAF&#8217;s limitations<\/strong>, it is important to refer to scientific studies that have analyzed this framework in depth. One of the major references in this field is the article &#8220;A Critical Investigation of TOGAF &#8211; Based on Enterprise Engineering,&#8221; published by Springer. This study provides a rigorous and detailed analysis of TOGAF&#8217;s weaknesses, based on advanced enterprise engineering theories.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"870\" height=\"655\" src=\"https:\/\/carto-si.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TOGAF-Ineffective-according-to-Science.jpg\" alt=\"TOGAF Ineffective according to Science!\" class=\"wp-image-1982\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carto-si.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TOGAF-Ineffective-according-to-Science.jpg 870w, https:\/\/carto-si.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TOGAF-Ineffective-according-to-Science-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/carto-si.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/TOGAF-Ineffective-according-to-Science-768x578.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Limits of TOGAF according to Science<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Unnecessary complexity <\/strong>: according to the study published by Springer, TOGAF imposes excessive complexity that is often unjustified for most companies. The processes and models proposed by TOGAF are often too cumbersome and complex to implement, making it difficult for operational teams to adopt them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lack of flexibility <\/strong>: TOGAF is criticized for its lack of flexibility. Companies evolve rapidly, and their information systems must be able to adapt accordingly. However, TOGAF proposes rigid frameworks that do not sufficiently take into account the need for adaptability and rapid iteration, essential in today&#8217;s business world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Theoretical approach disconnected from reality<\/strong> : one of the main criticisms made in the Springer article is that TOGAF is too theoretical and often disconnected from practical business realities. The models and architectures proposed do not always take into account the unique needs and specificities of companies, making their application ineffective in the field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In conclusion, <strong>although TOGAF is a widely recognized and used framework, it has significant limitations that make it unsuitable for effective mapping of enterprise information systems<\/strong>. Scientific critiques, such as those presented in &#8220;A Critical Investigation of TOGAF &#8211; Based on Enterprise Engineering,&#8221; clearly show that TOGAF imposes unnecessary complexity, lacks flexibility and is often disconnected from the operational reality of companies.
