Yannick, IT manager at Périgueux hospital, shared his experience with Carto-SI, an information systems mapping tool.
After discovering our tool in 2022, he implemented it during his previous posting in New Caledonia, where he was won over by its simplicity and affordable graphical interface. His satisfaction over several years led him to renew his use in France.
A need for coordination
When he was project manager in New Caledonia, Yannick and all the other project managers were faced with a lack of cross-functional vision for the hospital’s IT tools. The merger of the two local hospitals into a single structure required harmonization of existing tools.
Carto-SI appeared to be the ideal solution for centralizing information, enabling each team member to contribute to the mapping of the information system, and mapping out the convergence trajectory. The ease of use of the tool enabled each contributor, even without advanced technical expertise, to actively participate in process improvement.
A logical transition to Metropolitan France
On his arrival at Périgueux hospital, Yannick pursued the same organizational logic with Carto-SI. The hospital already had a GLPI systems map, but it lacked depth, particularly in terms of server infrastructure and business processes.Carto-SI emerged as the solution to complete and improve this mapping.
Thanks to this tool, Yannick was able to integrate server and application dependencies, facilitating an overview of critical processes, particularly for compliance with RGPD regulations, a key point in the healthcare sector.
Ongoing auditing and compliance
Yannick also mentioned the importance of Carto-SI in the context of an ongoing audit carried out for the certification of the hospital’s accounts.
Our tool has enabled Périgueux hospital to demonstrate that the Sl team has an exhaustive and organized view of its IT infrastructures. It plays a key role in managing application updates and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Challenges and successes
Although Carto-SI has brought undeniable benefits, Yannick also pointed out some areas for improvement, particularly in terms of field customization and the organization of information display.
These challenges have now been overcome, however, with a new version of the tool enabling better sorting and smoother use. In addition, Yannick expressed his interest in a future connector between Carto-SI and GLPI, currently under development, which would further facilitate the harmonization of information between the two tools.
Large-scale deployment
Today, Carto-SI is used at Périgueux Hospital to manage over 400 technical components. The tool has enabled us to optimize the management of application assets, and to quickly detect anomalies, such as applications that have not been updated for several years.
Building on the success of the Périgueux site, there are now plans to extend the tool to the whole of the department, with a project to deploy it in other establishments of the Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire (GHT) Dordogne.
The ultimate aim is to bring the information systems of the various hospitals closer together, to harmonize practices and facilitate collective management.
Conclusion
Yannick’s feedback highlights Carto-SI’s ability to meet the needs of large-scale IT management, while remaining accessible and easy to use. Although there is still room for improvement, the tool has already established itself as an essential solution for controlling and securing information systems, particularly in environments as demanding as the hospital sector.
